The
definition of success according to most dictionaries is:
“The attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence.”
That’s
their definition. However, the most important definition
of success is yours.
You
can have all the money, fame, and expensive toys in the world and
still feel like a failure. If you don’t feel successful in your
heart and soul, then despite what any authorities on the meaning
of words say, you’re not successful.
True
success resides in your heart. You know when you have success because
of how you feel, not how big the number is in your bank account
or how many islands you own. We’ve all heard stories of fabulously
wealthy people who, despite the enormous amount of their acquisitions,
still feel unsatisfied with their lives. What they lack isn’t more
money… it’s the soul deep satisfaction of living their life purpose.
In
a recent poll of top-level executives, more than 90% of them said
they felt like frauds and that the work they were doing wasn’t worth
the great sums of money they were being paid. Why would they feel
that way? Because in truth they’re living a life that’s based on
fraud - they’re living someone else’s life. They aren’t being true
to themselves and their own path. They’re defining themselves and
the success of their work using someone else’s definition. Had they
been living their own definition of success, they would now be experiencing
the fabulous success that truly counts - that of living their life
purpose.
Take
inventory of the people you know or know of. How many of them would
you deem to be successful? Write the names of five people you consider
to be highly successful here:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Of
these five people, circle the names of those who you believe to
be following their hearts and passionately living their life purpose.
How
would you like to be among that group?
